Facet Joint Syndrome May Accompany Other Lower Back Problems

Facet Joint Syndrome May Accompany Other Lower Back Problems

Facet joint syndrome, the deterioration of cartilage that cushions the facet joints, is a common cause of lower back pain. Unfortunately for many people, treating this condition won’t leave them free of discomfort. As we age, the lower back begins to break down due to heavy wear and tear, so its not uncommon for many problems to develop.

In addition to facet joint syndrome, the following conditions can also plague the lower back:

  • Bulging disc
  • Herniated disc
  • Degenerative disc
  • Bone spurs
  • Sciatica
  • Stenosis
  • More

In all of these conditions, tissue build-up, exposed bones, swollen joints, or growths press on nerves, cause inflammation and pain. In some cases, that pain can radiate down the legs and into the feet. And for some back pain sufferers, lower back conditions result in limited mobility and the inability to do certain activities. Fortunately there are treatments for these conditions. For those in the most pain, as well as those who haven’t responded to conservative treatments like traction or physical therapy, surgery may be the next step. At Laser Spine Institute, you can have the benefit of treatment for not just your facet joint syndrome, but other conditions as well, often in one procedure. At other facilities, you may be required to return for numerous surgeries, increasing your chance for complications; and, if you undergo traditional open-back surgery for your problems, you may have a long and painful recovery.

If you’d like more information about how we can reduce your lower back pain with our revolutionary, minimally invasive techniques, contact LSI today. We’ll review your MRI or CT scan for free.
